Towing

I need to tow my Chevy cavalier using a tow dolly. Do I have to disconnect the rear axle drive or can I just put it in neutral? I am only going about 20 miles.

  • As long as you have the front wheels on the dolly.
  • MKDSK.. there is NO, I repeat, NO connection between the rear wheels and the engine and/or transmission. It is free wheeling. There is not even an axle back there.

Place the car on the dolly and tie/chain/strap it down. Place the trans in PARK, release the parking brake, turn off key, lock doors....and off you go and have fun.
  • If it is manual, then leave it in first gear.
  • No leave it in park on the dolly, with the drive wheels tied down. As stated make sure the parking brake is off.
  • There is no rear axle drive for Cavalier because it is front wheel drive. Just make sure the emergency brake is off when it is on the dolly as the emergency brakes will apply the brakes on the rear wheels.
