I'm all for ordinances against on street parking for too long. I see it as a safety hazard. In that sense, the cities have a responsibility to do/legislate something.
I am completely against any ordinance against parking on your own property. In or out of view. If you own the property, it's no one's business what you do on it. I'm funny that way. Individual rights are paramount to me.
But, I live in a town of 1700. Tiny by most people's standards. We don't have law enforcement, let alone code enforcement. And don't need it. We work things out together. I think most neighborhoods could work this way if people gave it some effort. But I don't see that happening.
It's just an opinion. Cities have the ability to pass codes. In that sense, you vote with your feet. Easier said than done, but if we really don't like the laws of a city, we're free to move.
