Toyota FJ as toad

Is the Toyota FJ towable? Is towing it dependent on the type of transmission?

    I couldn't agree with you more. I too will NEVER crawl under a toad to disconnect or connect a drive shaft. While the flat towable toads, in all brands, seems to fluctuate from year to year, I too would look for something either exact or, very, very close to what we want as daily driver and flat towable toad, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before I'd choose one that has to be modified or, has to have a lube pump and or drive-shaft disconnect.

    But, this of course, is a matter of opinion. If one is still agile enough and, feels like crawling under a toad, in the dark of night, in the rain, in a camp ground, on a dirty road, and any other less than desirable set of conditions, to disconnect or, re-connect a drive shaft, then by all means, have at it, enjoy.

    But to the OP, the smartest thing you could/would/should do here is, go to the Toyota dealer, go right to one of those FJs and, dig up the owners manual, right in the showroom, and find the section about towing it.

    At last observation, in almost all of the Dinghy Towing Guides I have stored up, from around '02 to '13, there's very little in the Toyota fleet that can be flat towed. But, things may have changed so, again, I'd head to the dealer. Your choice. A word of caution here, do not, REPEAT, DO NOT be advised by any salesman or even a service rep, GO RIGHT TO THE OWNERS MANUAL! It's what's in writing that will count when it comes time for warranty.

  • We've towed two Toyota RAV4's for a total of 40,000 plus miles using the same Remco pump with no significant issues. In really cold weather, 20 deg.F or less, we sometimes get a low transmission oil pressure alarm until the fluid warms up a bit, but we've found that just hitting the remote start and letting it cycle once while we're getting ready to head out eliminates that problem.
  • We have an automatic 4wd 2007. It requires a driveshaft disconnect to tow it. I just remove the driveshaft, which takes about five minutes.

    Remco appears to list a lube pump, but I have never talked to anyone who purchased one.
