Trailer crash on mountain road.

Yet but another horrific lose of control of RV as seen from the dash cam of a semi-truck.

VIDEO http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2017/8/29/Watch-The-Moment-A-Trailer-Trashes-A-Ford-Excursion-At-High-Speed-7740819/

BUT I defy anyone to come to 'this' RV'ers defense, like in so many other threads, and say we don't have enough info to say one way or the other that RVer's like this have NO business on the road.

1. Obviously a high altitude road from the view of drop off on the right side
2. PASSING a semi on a 2 lane mountain road forcing semi to pull over.
3. SPEEDING to pass the semi
4. Too large of an RV for TV.
5. All caught on dash cam of who he was passing.

And anyone would ever wonder WHY he crashed this RV and flipped over. :R

Driver had is family and kids in that truck and had he flipped in the other direction it would have been all over for all of them.:(

  • All that stuff on the TT's rear. Washer? And other things.
  • So much for just keeping up with the flow of traffic.
    I don't pass anything going 65+
  • Dupe.

And, your claims are wrong or unsupported. It wasn't "a 2 lane mountain road", it was Interstate Highway 82.

I'm pretty sure that was a Ford Excursion, and some of those have 11K towing cap. TT is a Sprinter Select, maybe a 31, which is about 7,300 dry, good luck putting 3700 lbs in one. So, no legitimate claim that it was too large or that he was overloaded.

The truck was going 65, the speed limit is 70 - if he was speeding, it wasn't by much. From first seeing the front of his TV, until the rear of the TT appears is about 5 seconds. Estimate the entire rig to be 50 feet long. That's 10 ft/sec = 7 MPH faster than the truck, so maybe 72 MPH.

Looks to me more of a case of him overcorrecting and amplifying the sway. But I wasn't there so won't cop a holier-than-thou attitude and claim that's the case.

plenty of folks, several themselves towing heavy with Excursions came to his defense in last week's thread, as well as hurl insults at those of us playing armchair quarterback taking shots at the clip :)

And I'd expect 'them' to. :B

I tried it with the smallest and lightest TT that was available towing it with a Tahoe SUV and I knew right away it was all wrong. I ADMITTED it. And sold the TT after one trip down the road!!:W
  • They have laws in place for how long you can double tow etc. They have got to come up with something regarding how long you can tow with a too small tow vehicle to save these people from themselves.

  • The TV looked to be a SUV like a Ford Excursion. Good chance that SUV is well over the weight limit as well, especially at altitudes with possible high crosswinds.

Glad everyone survived, but it is a lesson.
