Trailer lights on passenger side out

Passenger side lights will notwork when 7 pin is plugged into my truck. The tt lights work when plugged into my dads truck so the problem is with my 2009 silverado. Ihave not checked the fuses because i am thinking the entire 7 pin plug would not work if it is a fuse. Am i correct? What can i check? I sprayed wd40 into the conector but still does not work. Tt works fine on the drivers side.

    Please confrim,

What you are calling "side lights"

    1. Are these the side yellow front and mid with red in back clearance/body side marker lights? (there are also 2 yellow up top in front of the camper and 3 red across the top on the back of the camper)

    2. Are you talking the rear tail lights, (the left and right turn signal, brake light and running light)

If you are talking item no 1, the issue is not in the truck as the trailer clearance/body lights are all wired in parallel.

If you are talking no. 2, then the problem may be in the truck or the camper.

If you want to confrim it is "not" the trailer, using the 7 wire plug, jump the trailer battery charge line pin to the clearance light pin and the left and right turn signal. (Note: make sure you do not jump the DC neg) If they all work then, the issue is in the truck or a finicky 7 wire plug/truck receptacle.

I sometimes have strange events like this and usually gets fixed by squirting some WD40 into the truck side connector and move the plug around a bit.

I guess the connector blades need cleaned sometimes...

A good tool for us is this 7-way connector tester from AMAZON. I have seen them in auto parts stores as well. This helps big time isolating where the problem might be. Truck side or trailer side...

  • I would suggest checking the fuse box under the hood. If my memory is right, newer Chevy's have the trailer lights wired separately through that, even thought the truck may have a fuse inside the cab for the regular vehicle turn signals.
If nothing found there, then I'd be suspicious of the outlet connector on the back end - many newer vehicles have a snap together factory harness / connector arrangement of which I have seen a few not snapped in right / tightly or a bent pin at assembly that looks secure / correct but is not making a connection.
  • No, each circuit is protected by its own fuse so there are several that protect the 7 pin conn.
You need to check the fuses, if one is blown you need to figure out why.
