Broken belt(s) in tread.... Next it would either blow or tread would separate. Glad you caught it in time. On my 5th wheel the tires are closer together so the bulged tire was rubbing against the other on rough pavement.
Luckily my DW was following in her car and kept seeing puffs of smoke so she called me. I thought a spring had broken until I saw the center of the tread was bulged out.
