Transmission lube pump

I am interested in installing a transmission pump on my 2005 Toyota Solara. I am a plumber and electrician, wiring a pressure / flow switch to a light or buzzer in the motorhome doesn't seem like a problem. Can a pump be installed in series with the OEM trans cooler cutting into the existing hoses to the cooler. Would being pulled behind the motorhome require an additional cooler, in series? Has anyone had experiance with this.
  • RV forums are less of a gearhead locale. The technical know how here is more limited than on the motorcycle forums.

    Hi
Iput a remco pump on my PT cruiser and it worked great. I have since sold the cruiser and have the pump and all the attachments except for the hoses. If you would like the complete system with all the instructions let me know. Will sell it all for $250 and you pay the shipping. The pump was only used for about a thousand mile's.
    Good luck on your project.

I am still interested in buying your pump system.

I am very surprised that all technical questions go unanswered on this form.
I am used to being on motorcycle forms and people seem to have more understanding than just sliding a credit card. Do you know what the two port and one drain fitting is?
  • this two port and one drain fitting is kind of a black box. does it contain a solenoid valve or a check valve?

The used pump, controller, and wiring will be usable of course, but you might want to see if Remco will sell you the fittings kit for the Toyota U-series transmission in your Solara. It won't be same as the PT Cruiser transmission kit. Sourcing the two port and one drain fittings elsewhere may be a challenge.

  • I have seen remco's installation instructions. Of course they leave out the engineering stuff. I was hoping to talk to someone that built their own. Not because remco's is expensive (marketed for motorhomers), but because I can. steve
  • I installed a Remco pump kit on our two Toyota RAV4's, including moving it from one to the other, and the excellent instructions provided made it a pretty straight forward job. The kit includes a pressure switch and a controller/monitor for the coach dash that will sound/display an alarm for multiple conditions, including ones as basic as forgetting to turn the controller switch on or plug in the umbilical cable. We've towed over 40,000 miles with the same pump so far, without a single pump related transmission problem.

Remco has the instruction manuals available on their web site so you can see what's involved.

  • Check with REMCO, Inc. They might make a kit for your Solara.
If they do, it will cost somewhere around $700 to $1000, plus installation.
