TRAVEL EUROPE WITH KIDS

Hi to all. I am new here in this forum and in the motorhome world.

I have some questions regarding my plan to visit europe in this summer.

We are 2 adults and 2 children( 11 and 8 years old)
We are planning a 21 day trip to Europe from mid August to September with a motorhome (Class-A) that I will barrow from a close friend of mine.

Places we hope to visit are as follows;

1. South Germany (Some parts of Munich,Dachau, Eagle's Nest..) (in 2 days)
2. Austria (Salzburg, Hallstatt) and Wien (in 3 days)
3. Budapest (in 2 days)
4. Sarajevo (Vrelo Bosne, Bascars?) in 2 days,
5. Mostar and Blagaj (in 1 day)
6. Kotor (in 1 day)
7 Dubrovnik (in 2 days)
8. Split and Brac ?sland (in 2 days)
9. Plitvitce NAtural Park (in 2 days)
10 Bled Lake (3-4 hours)
11. Venice (in 3 days)
12. Lake Como, and Lugano (1 day)

Can any experienced travellers give me some advice about;
1st, if this vacation plan is realistic (Do you believe if we can visit that many places in 21 days with a motorhome),
2nd if this is possible with my 2 kids.
3rd which place (s) must be skipped on this route?
4th Is this route safe for spending night out of camping sites (In case we are late to find one sometimes!!!)

  • I am actually living in Luxembourg and I will barrow my friend's motorhome... It will be cheap :-)

    At the price of airfare today I will not go to Europe for less than three weeks...dollar cost averaging so stay with your time frame. Even if this your first time to Europe, I'm sure you can manage it plus your FRIEND can help get you started. You have to get way off the beaten path before English is not understood.
  • Has anybody done something like that before? As I have stated it will be my first time to do this. Some of my friends had advised me to make shorter trip in order to understand if we can manage it. To be honest, I began to get worried about it.
    May be some of you may encourage me...

    Welcome to the forums... Can you drive a stick shift starting on a steep hill? X2 on the Bodesee and Lindau.
  • It sounds to me like a trip of a life time. However if it were me with small kids I would possible skip some of that stuff, They are simply too young to understand a lot of the history. Instead maybe plan for the black forest region. Lots of interesting places to see and things to do. Also plan a couple days on the Bodesee where there is a museum in the air ship museum and Manau Island.
    Also, remember if you think one day to drive, plan on two. Travel in Europe is nothing like here. Although there are freeways, they are simply not as interesting as the back roads. Stop often to explore the fantastic foods and history of the country.

    Having been to many of your places I'd leave off Budapest adding those days to German, Austria, snd Lugano/Como. Did not do it by Class C but by car, trains and cruise ships so not sure about your time frame and travel distances. Sounds like a great trip and your kids are old enough to remember it.
