What do you mean by a bit of front lift when loaded?
You are correct that you need the ball height on the truck at even with the trailer coupler height or up to 1" higher. I use that same hitch and on my new truck I also have to have it set as low as it can go to get to that level mark. Once there than you need to measure the front of your truck before and after hookup to ensure proper weight transfer using the bars and links.
The lift you are referring to, I don't completely understand but it makes me think you might be too light on your tongue weight. That is if you are hooking it up per the directions and it feels like the front of your trailer is pulling up the rear of your truck.
