The most important thing is that the drivers have a plan each day, where to stop. Which roads to travel, and where to meet when.
Second most important thing is to keep the wives happy. If momma ain't happy, nobody is happy.
We've traveled many times with another couple. The key is they are happy running about the same 57 mph target as we do.
We've made only a couple trips with more than one other couple and managed to keep together staying on freeways. However, we do not try to stay together when traveling through cities, or if the traffic gets heavy. The cell phone is key. Notify the other(s) in the group if you are going to break visual contact.
Another two couples we like to travel with do not like my pace. One faster, the other slower. We agree before pulling out where to stop for lunch and where to end the day.
Another couple likes to drive until they are tired. On one trip, they took two days to go 700 miles, we took three.
But, all of us, driver and navigator/ co-pilot - sit down together before we leave either the evening before, or the morning before. With a map, and make sure we know what everyone will be doing.
Lastly, if one rig has a problem. Decide ahead of time if you plan to go back and help, or travel on.
