Traveling in wind

Looking for opinions about towing in wind with tanks full or empty.
Should I have better control with full tanks and more weight or lighter and empty.
What about over the road freight haulers? Better empty or full?
  • I think every trailer will tow differently as fresh tanks are located in so many different places. If your fresh tank is up front then towing with it full may give a higher tongue weight...and perhaps a better experience. If your tank is in the rear it may unload the hitch and give worse handling. Lastly your weight distribution system "should" negate the effects of 2-400 lbs of water. I personally haul water whenever needed and don't worry about the wind.

  • My TT weighs about 8500 lb, I don't think the wind knows if I have a couple hundred pounds of water with me or not.
When I drove the flat bed was better then the trailer. It has more to do with the size of the sail that is catching the wind.
