Traveling Through Fort Worth and others

CBS channel 11 Ft Worth reports the Step program requires 4 "contacts" tickets per officer per hour. Goal to increase speeding tickets by over 14,000 and others likewise.
We might try to detour around these places this year.

  • Generally Dope Peddlers don't want to be noticed so they don't speed a whole lot. There are a lot of other profiles that work better.
Can't run faster than the crowd in front of you.
Ft Worth turning to go south on I Whatever is a real nightmare.
Traffic through the area was sometimes fast but our biggest problem was people cutting us off and weaving in the lanes next to us, on cell phones etc. and running like heck in the left lanes and then all of them trying to get in the right lane to go south or get off at work etc.
I would have liked to go to the Rodeo, a huge affair but missed it because of time constraints last year. Did stay at Cowtown RV Park, not remarkable but good. Several Folks were there with show cattle and horses and Kids and Grand kids going to compete. Seems like it take forever to get out of Dallas Ft Worth, or Austin or anywhere. It's a hundred miles to Town or the store for a lot of Folks.
Kinds hard to keep from going to sleep when the road is arrow straight and light or no traffic to the horizon in many parts with the cruise on the horizon not getting any closer.
  • Also remember, in these STEP grants they are not taking away from officers on duty. They are using off duty officers. There is no drop in coverage of all the other calls....I don't work STEP myself, I have plenty of other off duty things I do. As for uninsured drivers, my city tickets the driver, then tows their vehicle. They have to then provide proof of insurance before they can get it back.
  • I would like to see strict laws with uninsured drivers. they should impound the car and suspend their license 60 days. My daughter lives in Fort Worth scary the amount of uninsured drivers. With this ecomony I understand why they right more tickets and agree when your wrong your wrong.
  • I'd like to see 10 tickets an hour up there.... the place is a nightmare to drive in..
  • Pulling a car over for speeding, especially on our major north/south interstate corridors is one of the main ways that police nab drug traffickers.

Yes, Police need to focus more on speeders. Folks doing 5 MPH over the limit on a Texas highway are among our top crime problems these days.

Yep, that works for me also. And I have not seen any more activity in Ft Worth than any where else.

I would hate it for police to focus on enforcement of less important things like this:

    Other crime type>

Could it be that this perpetrator will not contribute any cash to the system, but only cost them for both incarceration as well as a trial, while the ticket receiver pays a fine and court costs that are easily 5X the fine?

Yeah, we need to stick it to speeders!
