I'm licensed for concealed carry in VA but MD and NY could care less. If I show up in those states with my handgun I'm likely going to jail. So, when I go to western NY state to see my in-laws I leave the gun at home. The laws of those 2 states force me to leave my family unprotected for the whole trip.
Long guns are a bit less of an issue but still problematic. You will need to do lots of research on every states official legal website. Even then, unfortunately, many police officers aren't up on all the laws. There are lots of helpful people on this website but the last thing I would do is risk felony charges based on what someone on an internet forum told me. Do your research.
It's a sad state of affairs. I wish we could have a carry license that is recognized everywhere just like a drivers' license but we don't.
Very good info. Even some retired LEOs have problems in other states like CA with large mags.
