Carry permits are not valid outside your state and in California it varies by county. My take on it is that if you need a gun to feel safe in an RV you should stay at home. The gun industry does a fantastic job of marketing their killing devices and unless someone is a hunter the way to get people to buy guns is to use fear which seldom fails.
I have had friends die in the military and friends die on the oceans and friends die scuba diving and friends die from cancer but I know of not a single person who has died when someone broke into their home or RV or tent. Most of the gun deaths of late have been from law enforcement officers breaking into people's homes in the middle of the night and shooting them and not a lot of good a handgun or shotgun is going to do someone when a half dozen heavily armed officers with machine pistols break down the door.
I can see merit in having bear spray to hopefully stop an attack by a bear or elk or moose or mountain lion or bison or pit bull. Too many hunters have died in these situations to rely on a firearm of any type.
On the highway I worry about drivers who are drunk or who are texting and a gun would not give me added piece of mind.
