If you have a cc permit and are carrying in your vehicle in a lot of states that do not recognize your cc permit... NY included,... it is legal to have a weapon in a locked box stored away from you...trunk or far back seat but not the clove box or console. The ammo has to be in a separate locked box too. Thing is you must pass through state without spending the night there. You can stop for gas and food but you must keep going and you must be legal cc permit for the state you came from (home ?) and the state of your destination. CC laws change a lot so keep up with them..
