We were introduced to that sales tactic the first time we ever looked to buy from a dealer. Never did work for us. I especially hate it when the salesman says. . . "Well you can buy that unit for $XX,XXXX." Then when we agree to that price, they change their mind and say "Well, my boss says I have to get a little more. . . can you pay another $5,000?" It was HIS price to begin with.
When we bought our new fulltiming rig 13 years ago, the salesman gave us a price to begin with that we could afford. Then we told him we had a trade. He whipped out his NADA book and looked it up. Said, "I will give you 'trade-in' from the book." He did and took that amount right off his quoted price. We signed on the dotted line and the rest is history.
