Trip report

Just completed a trip which began 8/15 and ended today. Started in Liberty, IN and arrived in Gold Canyon, AZ this afternoon.

Towed 3,083 miles and averaged 8.9 MPG

Towed one 11,000 pass, a couple of tens, a few nines and several in the seven and eight range. Even the 3600 foot Union pass we did today was a good pull; starts at 650 feet and rises to the pass in 12 miles. My GCWR is 16K and the scale read 15.6K.

Both the truck and trailer performed flawlessly.

Camped in these Colorado towns over a 4 week period:
Colorado Springs
Loveland
Central City
Grand Junction
Gunnison
Montrose
Cortez

Camped in these Utah towns over a 6 week period:
Bluff
Moab
Torrey
Escalante
Cannonville
Glendale

Then split up a week between Las Vegas and Laughlin.

Right now I couldn't be happier to have that wonderful trip behind us and spending the next 5 months in the Arizona sunshine.

Cheers
  • I could really do without posts like this. Makes me jealous and gives me hitch itch.
  • We had a blast but it was tiring. Did something every day for ten weeks in CO and UT. Didn't do too much in our first month in AZ (nov). A lot of relaxing.
  • Got thousands of pics but don't know how to post them with my IPAD. A sampling of places visited:
    Pikes peak
    Rocky Mountain National Park
    Colorado National Monument
    Grand Mesa
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, both sides
    Mt Crested Butte Area
    Ouray area
    Mesa Verde National Park
    Garden of the gods
    Four Corners
    Monument Valley
    Natural Bridges National Monument
    Up the Moki Dugway
    Canyonlands National Park, both sides
    Arches National Park
    Many other sites around Moab
    Goblin Valley
    Capital Reef National Park
    Fish Lake National Forest area
Canyons of the Escalante National Monument
    Burr trail road
    Kodachrome State Park
    Bryce National Park
    Red Canyon
    Zion National Park, both sides
  • I can't imagine why you would leave this beautiful, perpetually grey and cold Indiana winter! :R

Enjoy your time in AZ, you are doing exactly what I hope to do one day when we reach retirement. BTW, love the floorplan of your camper.
  • Trouble free trips are good to hear! Welcome to AZ as the weather is perfect right now.
