The mirrors on my Ford F350 are pretty good, almost as good as mirrors on big trucks; the convex part is quite large and shows objects almost up to the driver doors. In eleven years, I have not yet (knock on wood!) to have a undetected vehicle in my blind spot. (In a big truck, because the driver is so high off the ground, it may be impossible to see a vehicle near the right front fender. I don't have that problem in a pickup.)
Never trust backup cameras. In my regular car, I would back up looking mostly at the backup camera screen. TWICE I scratched a rear fender because I wasn't paying close attention to the side mirrors. The guy at the body shop said that he LOVES backup cameras because they really keep him in business. Now I watch the side mirrors AND the backup camera screen when backing into a parking spot.
