I started camping with the folks after WW II. Married in '60.
The kids came along in the '60s ....and the last one left in '85. Those years were the most remembered as we camped with mostly family (parents/grand parents/aunts and uncles/Cousins). Most camp sites weren't level sites but were just scattered tables in hilly terrain......dirt or gravel roads.
Most campers back then did so for the get back to nature thing enjoying peace and quiet. That changed in the '80 with a generation that looked for more excitement.
We don't camp anymore mostly because we've always lived rural. Were in the middle of 40 acres with 40 to 400 acre owners around us so we have peace and quiet. Were both 75 now and all the family left is the kids and a few old cousins.
We use the trailer for a long trip 2-3 times a year staying here and there just looking at what nature has to show in a particular area.
If your wanting to try the RV thing I would suggest buying a nice used unit....that way you don't take the big hit in pockets when it roll off the lot.
Try the rv thing but don't limit your camping to the more popular campgrounds.
