I don't view it as "just enough" but "belt and suspenders" vs. "belt, suspenders, rope, duct tape, staples and glue." At some point the methods to hold up your pants become redundant and unnecessary.
Occasionally you need more than just the belt and suspenders, but usually that's because the pants are much too large for the butt that's wearing them.
