UGLY!!!

...new RVs, that is.

I went to the Nashville RV show today. Not with any serious intent to buy, but scoping out the different types/sizes.

I have never in my life seen such a collection of ugly mud-brown cabinetry, dirt-gray floors, and black trim. If I had 10X the money, I wouldn't buy a single one of the new RVs I saw on that floor.

To add insult to injury, most mfrs have used very cool blue-ish toned LED lights, and not nearly enough of them. A very bad combo with the colors inside.

The first one I walked in was a Roadtrek, in which the entire sleeping area was BLACK. It was a dungeon, especially given the poor lighting that was only half turned on.

Don't manufacturers realize that lighter colors would open up the small spaces they are working with?

Many other people were commenting on the dark colors, too.

And don't even get me started on the flashing rope LEDs that also changed color, on the outside of a big 5th wheel. This was the one with a 36" TV outside. I sincerely hope to NEVER be parked near that one.

The cutest thing there was the Little Guy MyPod. Add a screen room, enough space in the vehicle for food & supplies. and a couple could be really comfy.

  • We went to the show in London,Ontario last weekend and looked at the 2016 version of our Jayco. The new colour schemes sure made it a different feel inside. Would not think of trading ours for a new one. They say they have a panel of mostly women who pick the interior colours. I would not like to see the interior decoration of their homes if this is what they are recommending.
The other thing that we noticed was the sofa and dinette cushions were leatherette (Vinyl ) and dark brown. I like the feel of fabric.

  • We call them "paper bag buses". I look around the park we're in and they all look the same. Easy to pick ours out in the row.
  • What I noticed was the lack of windows. even on some entry doors! only windows were over the couch and dinette!
The LED lights don`t bother me, as they can be turned off.
One outside kitchen was so high that even for me I would've needed a step stool to use it.
I agree with the dark chocolate interior colors.
It looks like Island kitchens in TT`s are popular now. residential fridges are getting popular in trailers now too.
    Lots of pluses and minuses!

Man am I glad you testified on the new color schemes. IMHO they are garish, ugly and down right tomorrows trash. They look more like circus wagons than RV's. I will not buy until there is a change back to nice normal colors with minimum **** swirled all over the sides.

The insides were worse than the outsides, believe me.

I told one of the dealer reps that other people were commenting on the color schemes too. He said that the mfr reps told him they made some in lighter color schemes and they just didn't sell.

    I don't believe that for a minute.

These mfr designers need to take some lessons from HGTV on their "Tiny Apartment" makeovers.

  • Exactly what we think!!! Saw a used rig a couple of years ago that I wanted.....light sage green carpet, sage green accessories (couch, curtains, etc) and white cupboards. Can't remember the wall color but what I can remember is when I walked in I felt at home and cheerful!!!!
  • As someone said on a forum thread a few weeks ago, the new campers, with the inside lighting reminded him of the Las Vegas strip with all the rope style lighting and led everywhere look.

I agree with the light color concept and WINDOWS! and bright light! I want my camper to look like a home, comfortable, and cozie, not a casino or a strip club, or a black Gothic cave!
