They both have been working for a couple of days until yesterday, bedroom quit. Took shroud/cover off and found since it was made the cap tube has been laying right against the compressor and has rubbed a hole it. Now it has lost all refrigerant. 2 1/2 year old unit out of warranty and I have to spend a thousand bucks to get it replaced. Dometic Duo Therm Penquin ducted 13.5. Going to go with a 15k unit.Piss Poor workmanship if you ask me but thats the way most things are made now a days I suppose.

I had one recharged by a real a/c guy. Brazed on Schrader valves, evacuated and recharged...$250. I hate Dometic :(

The OP was correct in saying it was a cap tube. I missed that distinction and wish to apologize for not thinking of a capillary tube rather than a capacitor.

Well I'm still confused... not unusual but a cap tube is usually connected to a switch that turns the compressor off when the evaporator starts to ice up and does not have any freon in it.
You can buy line taps that will let you put freon back in but the newer units are using some new type of freon.

You should consider this route too.
I am an A/C tech an d that would be a pretty inexpensive fix.

Same thing happened to one of my Carrier Air V's.. which is why that one is now an Advent Air.. the other Carrier Air V did not get as much use and thus forewarned being forearmed.... Modifications were made to insure it does NOT happen to it.
