Here is the Official US Travel warning Looks mostly the same.

A quick check online would have shown you whether the newspaper article made sense or not, rather than rejecting it outright.

I don’t remember the U.S. exporting that many guns...hand, rifle, shotgun, autos etc...illegally to Somalia as we have to Mexico.
