How about a compromise? Take the open lane but don’t fly past everyone else. Either pace alongside the moving other lane or if it’s stopped like the the photo above, slowly make your way toward the front.
In theory this should help to fill up that empty lane behind you rather than it just being a few of you like-minded people “passing” everyone over there.
