Thanks everyone for the input! (I was very busy at work the past few days and didn't have much downtime at home to check this forum.)
I think I will follow the crowd and use the WD setup on lengthy trips. For shorter distances I will consider going without the WDH and see how it handles.
Since the hitch is factory there was nothing stamped on it, kind of annoying since the hitch on the Suburban was aftermarket and had all the info I needed just right there. There was a sticker facing toward the center of the truck indicating this hitch is Class V. It does have a 2 1/2 inch receiver.
