Used RV Sales @ Camping World - Pricing

The question is going to be vague, but I can't do anything about it...sorry in advance.

We're looking at a certain 5th wheel at our closest Camping World store. It's a Forest River, about 10 years old and in decent shape. Of course, there are a few items that need attention, all of which are pretty obvious. We are seriously considering purchasing it. The price point is average IMO. They salesperson played the typical numbers game, dazzling us with all the different numbers, confusing MSRP's, and the up/down trade in values.

My question is really related to how flexible they can be on the price. Yes, I know, too vague. But really, I don't want to pursue this any further if we get the feeling that their pricing won't move enough to suit our budget. The store is about 45 minutes away from us, and in a direction we rarely travel anyway.

For those who have bought used from Campig World, about how much flexibility did they offer on pricing?

  • IMHO, I am not a fan of Camping World when it comes to buying RVs. I have read to many RV experiences, service, prices, repairs that are critical and negative.:(
  • Thanks for all the comments. We are by no means in a hurry. We'd like to upgrade before the Fall, so we have plenty of time to search around. There's nothing wrong with our current TT, except it's a little small, and 24' with no slides gets mighty cramped with 3 little kids. But it was passed along to us from our family, so this is our first experience trying to buy one. I'm the prodigy of car dealer folks, and the little games played by the RV salesman aren't much different than a car salesman.

Funny thing is that before I left, he asked if we wanted put a hold deposit on the unit. I told him that it had been on the lot for 3 months, so it could probably wait another week or 2.
  • We have purchased used TT's from CW twice. In both cases I carefully researched similar units and had a good idea of what we were willing to pay. We were able to offer cash and we wanted an extended warranty. We were not in a hurry. Both times we left without making a deal but hammered out a mutually satisfactory deal over the next few days. I suggest that you be upfront with them about what you can pay. If they absolutely cannot meet your price, they will tell you so. lizzie
  • X2 on darsben's answer. If they don't fix it before you pay they'll never fix it after. We bought a new coach and Camping World had it 5 months out of the first year we owned it and never did fix all the issues. We finally got the factory to let us take it to another dealer to have repairs completed.
  • I think DARSBEN's answer is bullet proof. Keep in mind you must have the mind set you will and can walk away.
  • I would make sure everything they promise is in writing.
  • Go in with your price and offer it as a take it or leave it. Quit playing their game in their house because you cannot win.
If you have a trade consider selling it yourself to take out all variables
MAKE SURE YOU DO A thorough pre-delivery and everything fixed BEFORE you pay.
    It will need new tires.
