Utility Trailer?

Not sure how it is today, but 6-10 years ago in this world you paid asking price or didn't buy. They were somewhat hard to get and in high demand.

Have you considered renting for the time you need the trailer?
Say U-Haul or another?
Saves registration, insurance and storage if that is a problem.

We have considered this and looked at costs. My son needs to move out of his apartment in 2 weeks, and he doesn't begin his next phase of life in Maine July 1st. So between now and then he will need to store his stuff somewhere (not at home, please!!!), and then get it all to Maine, and then a return trip next year (next phase in only one year). And I could use the trailer for some work at home anyway, and possibly holding some garage stuff when not in use elsewhere. So I'm looking into the options out there, and the costs involved. Insurance I had forgotten about, another cost!

Looks like 6x10; 6x12's are around $3000; and 7x16 are around $5000.

I have 2 utility (landscape type) trailers and GEICO covers them as part of the tow vehicle.

Crankyape might be a place one might try looking for a used unit. Disclaimer: Caveat emptor, and you might have to drive a ways to fetch it.

A friend of mine recently bought a 7x16 with a side door and a rear door that opens downward making a ramp. He said he paid about $4000 for it. I don't know where he bought it.

Those prices you listed for new are about right. I paid a little under $5K for a 7 x 16 with extra height 5 years ago. Agree with looking at Craigslist and Crankyape to buy used.

I'm keeping an eye on prices as well... one place offered to build reinforced frame members on the sides so I can mount solar panels and Rotopax containers on a 6x8 with a ramp door and a side door with a RV type lock (so the door can be opened from the inside, and the trailer used as additional sleeping space in a pinch.) Heavy duty barrel bolts and a bar across the curb side door on the inside would ensure that when stored, the only way in would be the rear ramp door, while still allowing someone to get out.

Forgot how much they asked for... I'll go check, but it was about $3-4k, although the price they quoted me was higher than normal because I was asking for some specific, custom items, especially frame and axle related (I wanted a heavier duty axle and frame than the usual trailer so if I wanted to have a battery bank, I wouldn't be overloading it.)

I have an older Wells Cargo Tote Wagon. Quoted new price is about 6,500 for the 7x17x7-1/2 like mine. Current comparable for used is about 4,600. That about what I paid several years ago. I have thought about selling, so did the research. Only problem is to get a smaller trailer would be trading dollars, and just reducing the space available. This one is light weight, so what's 300 lbs.

If you are not going to use the trailer regularly consider renting. There are lots of smaller rental companies, not U-Haul that have daily, weekly, monthly rates. Average in my area seems to be about $20 per day, and have some flexibility. One company I used gave me a great rate on a 6x12 for two weeks, if I could wait until after Labor Day last year. Seems they have a back to school rush for the smaller trailers. I also used them to rent a stock trailer for moving some equipment. Was clear about what I was going to do, and they said I would have to pay for any blown tires. Great to work with owners, not managers. Figure your usage, cost the rentals and see if it works out. You have hit the prime time to sell, so the prices are going to be right up there.
