Vacationioning with out the TT.

We are doing it right now. We left Houston yesterday morning and I'm now enjoying a great breakfast in old town Santa Fe MN as I type this. Try that towing a camper.

To me time is $. It would have taken me 3 days to drive here with FW in tow. And another 3 days to get back home. As it is we fly back Tuesday and I'm back to work Wednesday morning.

We do it all the time.
Stay in a quaint B&B or small hotel on Main Street.
Step out and walk wherever, short walk to all the sights.

Buying and keeping the same camper for decades renders the cost of the camper nearly meaningless

Except for insurance and maintenance. Depending on the unit it can be cheap or costly.

There were times when I just didn't want to fight with setting up, breaking down, leveling, etc. I've also had far more negative experiences with noise, etc., in campgrounds versus hotels/motels/etc. And there are just too many places to go in this world that either time or logistics make impossible if I stick to just an RV. Do I miss the RV lifestyle? At times, yes. Will I ever get another camper? Don't know yet. Is one style of travel "better" than another? No, just different. Pros and cons to both. You pays your money you makes your choice.

I suspect part of the issue many of us have when it comes to sharing a house or even vacationing with others is lack of privacy and ability to do what we want when we want. That would bother me most. And I agree with Bucky-I don't handle shrieking very well any more!

Not sure I understand the angst expressed by the OP in his post. :h As much as anyone we've enjoyed camping / traveling with all the various rigs we've owned over the years but it's certainly not our only recreational activity. Right now my wife is shopping for flights back home to The Land Downunder to visit our rels, preferably in late fall when it's cold, wet, and dreary here but gorgeous summer there. :B Obviously we won't be taking the camper, 'though because her brother owns one we might be lucky enough to get away camping there for a few days ... if so we'll no doubt enjoy it thoroughly but we won't be missing our own at all which by that time will be in winter storage anyway. Life is best enjoyed by being multi dimensional. :B

Check out the CG's in the area I found in my travels MANY have furnished ones they rent out.

I was staying at a CG right on a real nice lake in Florida in my MH when I was walking around the CG and found a whole row of real nice little furnished houses for rent.

I talked to a couple staying in one of them and OMG the monthly rent on that cabin was cheaper than what I was paying for my monthly MH site! :E

They too used to come down in their MH but once they found out about the rentals they now rent CG cabins instead, because it was so less expensive. And you have your car you drove down in to get around to sight see. And they don't care how many people stay in one. Same monthly rent.

After that I started doing CG searches with cabins and found there are many CG's that also offer cabins.

Something to look at next time your family wants up to pitch in on a costly seasonal vacation rental house!!!!

Just think, you probably got one the their nicest units too! Hopefully the bed bugs won't bite too much and do you know the pigs that had occupied the place last week? Hope you brought a dozen big can of Lysol spray to disinfect the toilet and any place you or your family might touch! I can almost feel the germs crawling on me just thinking about the mess you are shoved in...

So glad we always used our own kept very clean and sanitary RV and know exactly who was inside it last and before that too!

We are not germaphobes always but because my wife was a travel agent, trainer, and investigator for who was the largest travel agency in the world before retiring and had personally assisted in some of the "black light" resort, hotel, motel, cruise ship monitoring a few times, we want nothing to do with most of these venues for staying in. We'd been on 16 cruises for instance and lots of other travel. My wife always said I must go along to carry the luggage, of course and being self-employed I did! Well, somebody had to do it!

Some were much worse than others by far and it varied greatly but none were truely "clean" by our standards! There were several documentaries on TV over the years also that actually showed clearly how dirty or poorly "cleaned" even the very expensive accomodations/chains truely were and still likely are.

So. Had to change houses. The first one was trash. Siding gone and roof leaks It was raining as hard inside as it was outside. Really atrash dump. They should be ashamed for trying to rent it out. But we're in another better one now but still a lot of trouble

So people who rent houses are pigs? Nice. Then by that standard all RVers are partying drunks. I'm assuming, then, you don't touch shopping carts, go to a gym, never eat out, don't sit on a couch in another person's home, or flush the toilet with the lid open (germs fly for a few hours afterwards and land on your toothbrush). If you don't want to rent a property that's your business but don't call those of us who do pigs.
