Vacationioning with out the TT.

For the first time in more than 20 years we are going for a week without the camper. It just don't feel right, and even split 3 ways, The cost is mind blowing. Just our part is more than double the cost of a campsite for a week at the beach. But they all wanted to get a house on the OBX. so we will be on our way at 0 dark 30.

We'll see how it goes, But I'm thinkin. This is not going to be a regular thing. I miss my camper already.
  • We've done it once in the last 10 years, and didn't like it. Our teenagers have gone to the beach with friends and stayed in condos, and didn't like the condo thing.

We almost booked a hotel for my daughters lacrosse tourney in 2 weeks thinking it would be easier, and maybe cheaper to drive the wife's car at 34 mpg vs 8mpg pulling a camper. All of the decent hotels were $150-175 a night. We decided to take the camper. We will just sleep there, we probably won't even get out any chairs.

I think the value of camping really depends on the price of the camper. We had a popup for 9 years. We bought it slightly used for $6k. We spent 20-25 nights a year in it for 9 years, and sold it for $5k. That's way cheaper than a motel or condo. When you get into $250k motor homes you cost per night goes way up.
  • Vacationing or traveling without an RV along and being part of it is cruel and unreasonable punishment. There should be a law against doing it!

"Not counting the cost of the camper, of course."

Buying and keeping the same camper for decades renders the cost of the camper nearly meaningless and it still has value anyway if it's been maintained and used properly. After all, it's your home away from home and maybe a guest home too when at home without spending any extra money! How sweet it is...
  • We are doing the same thing in 3 weeks from now, first time in 30 years without camping.
Going on a scenic train trip through British Columbia. For 9 days it is costing more than it would for 120 days of camping. More than likely why we haven't done it in 30 years.
  • Lol, don't blame you. I like my own digs and I know who has been in my bed and sitting on my toilet.
