I have 7 children and I can say that they can be surprisingly unpredictable at times, even older kids. How many parents have asked, "Why did you do that?" and received the now famous answer, "I don't know". One of the kids could have become excited when he got a bite and backed into the road without thinking. When I am driving and kids are within 10 feet of my vehicle I am watching carefully and expecting the unexpected.
Maybe the father is a clueless moron, but don't punish his kids by putting them in jeopardy. If the father is a moron, well, then life will punish him. I might even have also mumbled something about him being a moron to my wife, but would have stopped. Then would have had my wife go out and talk pleasantly to the father, ask if they had any bites, maybe made a comment about how nice it is to see a dad fishing with his kids, and finally a concerned commment "could you all move over a bit more because I wouldn't want anything to happen to the kids".
I have found that if I get riled up over someone it only affects me and I become a grump, which is what I don't want to be when I am camping with the family (or most any other time).
