A large enough coil of wire can heat up from the electricity flowing through. However, an RV extension cord laying on the ground in a loose coil is NOT the same thing. Mine is almost always laying in a coil (I coil it on purpose to make it neater) and it NEVER gets hot, even with the AC running all day.
