I used to make "volcanoes" with vinegar, baking soda, a plastic bottle and clay with my third graders. It was their favorite science experiment. The vinegar and baking soda would fizz and bubble up over the bottle and down the sides of the clay volcano. I do remember that we had to have the right ratio of vinegar and baking soda to make a successful volcano but it was all trial and error on their part. No matter how many times we did it the whole class would go..."ahhhhhhh ohhhhhh".... it was really so cute.
