We just visited the RV museum in Indiana earlier this year and saw some of these gems. Most weren't restored but that made them even more interesting!

Imagine camping with you family in some of these campers!!

If you are on the West Coast in May the best place to see a whole campground full of Vintage Trailers and RVs is,

At Pismo Coast Village I stumbled on this annual event a few years ago and have been going every year, it is amazing.

My first road trip was in a borrowed homemade teardrop trailer like that. I was six years old and my Dad towed it with a brand new '52 Oldsmobile 88, using a bumper pull. My Mom and I slept in the trailer and my Dad slept in the back seat of the car. We made it to the Badlands of South Dakota and back to Cincinnati in two weeks. No expressways back then. About 3000 miles, all on secondary roads. No expressways back in 1952. The Interstate Highway Act wasn't passed until 1956.

Mom & Pops lining two lanes and having old school meatloaf and mashed taters floating in homemade gravy, slabs of pie and fresh coffee...yeah baby!

Love it! We have been on the lookout for an Aristocrat LoLiner like the one we had in the early '70s. So far haven't found the right one, but I know it is out there somewhere.

I love the first one. I used to have a 1959 Nash Metropolitan and it was surprisingly fast. Every so often someone with a souped up VW bug would want to race me and I'd always beat them. My Metro had worn valve seals and smoked so I'd not only beat them, I'd leave them eating my exhaust smoke! A fun little car.

What I find interesting among vintage enthusiasts I've met is the trend toward modernizing them to have facilities more like modern RVs.

Our 1961 TT had one LPG lamp, two 12V lamps, gravity fill fresh water pressurized by bicycle pump for one cold-water sink and to wash down the toilet, no water or 120V hookups. No shower, no water heater, fridge and wall heater used pilot lights. 12V worked from the tow vehicle battery. It would be a good dry camping TT today.

What I see more often among vintage "restorations" is addition of 120v/12V electrical systems, pump driven water supplies, fridges, furnaces that need 12V power, and even water heaters.

If you want real vintage, you might have to find something ancient to restore, a shrinking market, rather than one that has already been modernized.

If you want vintage, you can't beat Airstream. They built their first one in 1929. I can't imagine a CG turning one away because of their "10 year rule".
