I didn't read all 5 pages of this thread. Here in MN we used to get drivers education as part of out high school training. It took all summer long to get your license. Then MN privatized it. Now anybody can walk in to the private school and walk out 3 days later with a drivers license.
This lack of training has caused a lot of poor drivers.
I also blame the insurance company's some. They advertise "fast claim service" like you are going to be making claim so they make it easy for you to do so. There was a time when we tried not to make insurance claim. Now, you can get into a car accident, walk to the nearest dealer and drive away with a brand new can without ever needed to hang up you cell phone. (Which is why you got into the accident in the first place.
Also, at one time cars were a extension of ourselves. We took care of them. We personalized them with special parts and devices. We treated them like family and gave them names. Now, they have as much personality as a toaster. So, no one cares if they get wrecked. There disposable.
