virus

Just got back to Illinois from 2 months in FL. interrupted by campground closings. Haven't been on the forum for a long time. Just wondering how you are coping and responding to the Corona Virus?
We decided about a week ago to get the heck home not knowing what measures would be taken. We did OK but just a step ahead of closings and the Illinois lockdown.

Ford Truck Guy, nice digs! Right now I am wishing we still had one. I've got my son in his study and my husband in the basement. Our house is open concept so my husband can't use the other study. Both have loud, commanding voices. I'm used to being in the house by myself. It's been nice seeing them at lunch and having them walk with me in the afternoon if they can but I don't get much peace and quiet as they keep be-bopping into the family room to say hello. Even the dogs are exhausted because their day-long naps are being interrupted! Yup, wish we still had a mh so I'D have some place to hide!

yup.. went into the house today for lunch... the dogs were wrestling.... barking... DW was painting the kitchen...
I made a sandwich and had to take it back to the RV for that very important call that I couldn't miss :B. It's nice having it kept in the driveway at all times with 50amp service..
  • Ed and I decided to stay in Florida for the moment - not that we are happy about the beaches still being open, encouraging the Spring Breakers who have NOT been following guidlelines....grrrrr. But since the little darlings have been partying hard - we don't want to follow their germ-filled trail back north. In hindsight - we did a STUPID thing and didn't drive the converted van to FL - so now we get to trek back north in a minivan. We normally don't mind staying in a motel - but right now that thought gives me the heebie-jeebies. Will probably attempt to sleep in the Pacifica :-(
  • We're still trying to do some camping but the state parks near us are still full of snow-birds till the end of April. At least they haven't closed the state parks like other states. We're gonna be doing some boon-docking, instead. Virus or no virus we still want to go camping before the temps are in the triple digits.

With all the craziness associated with this virus we're trying to live life as normally as we can but that's near impossible. I stopped by Harbor Freight today to get a box of gloves and found the shelves empty. A sign said all the gloves had been donated to area hospitals. Wife has been to the grocery stores a few times only to find the shelves bare of most everything. We have become Venezuela...for no reason.
  • We have decided to stay right here in our 40 foot long trailer in Key Largo and wait til things are under control before heading back to the sticks and bricks home.
They have closed the Keys to tourists and visitors, so except for the locals, and other owners, we have the place to ourselves which is wonderful for me who has two clots(pulmonary embelisims) (sp) in each lung.
Our day consists of taking a lunch and heading out into the mangroves on our paddleboards to our secret sandy bottom wading pool where we feed the tropical fish. There is nothing like standing in waste deep 80 degree, gin clear water, with Parrot Fish, Sargent Majors, mangrove Snappers, Gray Snappers and Four Eyed Butterfly fish surrounding you, and two days a ago, I had a beautiful emerald green Moray Eel swim right by me, so close I could have touched it, (if I dared).

Our normal head home time is the end of April, and we might just stay here if things don't change.

    Guy

Still in South Texas campground where some are "coping" by playing cards every day in full defiance of this media hoax. (Not me)

In a pinch, dog poop pickup bags over your hands can suffice for gloves. And they're cheaper; and no hospital need them :-)
  • I Wear a protective face mask like doctors do when in crowded places and wash hands often.

  • Has anyone mentioned dollar bills? Does the virus live on money? Many people have touched the money in my wallet.

here is a quote from the article listed above

"The belief is that these viruses can stay on surfaces in their fully active states for at least 10 days. That includes cash and all kinds of other surfaces that people normally touch," Dr. Sanjay Maggirwar, chair of the George Washington University School of Medicine's department of microbiology, immunology and tropical medicine, told CBS MoneyWatch. "So certainly with the coronavirus, cash handling is a concern."
