I cannot help with the visitors, but might be able to with the toilet valve problem. We had the same stuck valve issue. I removed the toilet and determined the push flush valve was traveling too far probably because of too much force used when flushing. I put a piece of firm rubbery type foam under the pedal which prevents over extension of the pedal. Contacting the foam gives a feedback to the user that the pedal is open far enough. Solved our problem.

I will give that a shot. I tried manipulating the valve handle every which way to duplicate the problem and try as I might, I could not get it to stick.
