I am a retired Recreation Program Manager for the National Forests and was in charge of a program with 30+ developed campgrounds. I think you and your son could be a good fit as campground hosts in many national forest campgrounds. (Note: there are some special instances that may not be a good fit, such as GC's with bear problems, etc)
As someone said, while many NF campgrounds do not have electric hookups, they often do have electricity at the campground host spur.
It all depends upon the experience you and your son are looking for. Most NF campgrounds tend to be very remote and undeveloped. But if you want more development (elect., shower houses, buildings, etc) the Army Corps of Engineers might be a good fit.
I would echo what someone else said about trying out camping duties somewhere on a short trial basis. If your son enjoys it, then I say go for it. And I wish you all the best of luck!
