Waldo Florida Spped Trap

Waldo, Florida on US 301 is back in the news again because of their speed trap.
They have been told that they must write so many speeding tickets in a 12 hours shift. They are being investigated again.

Sorry, that was bad, but I couldn't resist!

  • Not sure how people can call it a "speed trap" when there are HUGE (8' x 16') signs starting several miles BEFORE you get to the Waldo speed signs saying the "speed is strictly enforced in Waldo for safety of their citizens". They do have ZERO tolerance for speed, so obey the signs.

Also this does not apply to just Waldo, as there are 3 towns there on US 301 that all have strict speed enforcement.

  • According to Wikipedia

"Speed limits were originally enforced by manually timing or "clocking" vehicles travelling through "speed traps" defined between two fixed landmarks along a roadway that were a known distance apart."

Stay within 5 above and you will be fine. Enforcing the speed limit I wouldn't call a "speed trap." When I was a LEO, it was easy to get someone driving 95-100 on a freeway posted 70 MPH. I usually gave at least 10 over if not 15 which is generous I think.
  • What is perceived as a problem is easily solved by observing the speed limits. An excellent idea, anywhere, for all RV'ers And, makes the 301 corridor safer for all pedestrians and drivers.
