I have a rottweiler and a mastiff. I can't figure out why for the life of me people want to cut through my site with the dogs out!! Yes they are friendly, AFTER they have been introduced and gotten to know you. If you love dogs and want to chat dogs, feel free to stop by (happens all the time actually). But, if you plan on simply walking through, just walk around instead. The dogs need a solid 5 minutes to evaluate you before they like you and it's not gonna happen while you're walking past.
And yep, I agree, cutting through sites is rude. When I take a newbie camper niece/nephew with me, it's one of the first things I tell them.
