Walking through campsites

You'll never stop some people from walking through other folks campsites. All you can do is make that pathway less desirable than others. You don't need big dogs, either. You just need a couple of BIG dog food bowls with "KILLER" and "BRUISER" printed on them, next to a couple of big chains. :)

You're correct I am renting this site. Farmers also lease land all the time and immediately post "no trespassing" signs up.
My friends site is beside us and the last site on this row. People cut through his just to save an extra 20 ft of walking.
I would never walk through someones site. I have camped at places before where walking through our site was a necessity based on location, and I had no problem with that. These people are just lazy.

People camping are no different than people in general... Some are going to be rude others will not.

Ummm... I lived in an apartment for 3 years before I got married. I didn't OWN that either, I RENTED it... much like a campground spot. Would you have opened my front door and strolled through my living room there? Hopefully not. You are probably going to argue that walking through a yard is different than walking through a living room.

I owned a townhouse and rented it out for 2 years. The rental agreement gave my renter 100% access to the house AND THE GROUNDS. I wasn't allowed to show up randomly and walk across MY backyard, because it was legally rented to our renters. I had to get permission to enter the yard that I OWNED.

If I didn't have those rights, why am I paying to rent the site? If anyone can wander across any site and claim a right to it without paying for the privilege, what is the difference between walking really slowly across a site and dropping a camper in the site?

How much was the lawsuit against you?

Rudeness happens everywhere. We have miles of trails behind our property. We walk the trails frequently which are primarily built for mountain bikers but some hikers/runners/horseback riders frequent them track bridge with our 2 big dogs when a runner wanted to cross at the same time. There was barely enough room for us when he pushed my husband aside so he could continue his run uninterrupted. No apologies or excuse mes. Just kept running. My husband was speechless and almost fell into the creek. Rude sob. I yelled some choice words but he was plugged in.

You would suppose that common sense and courtesy would apply here. Thankfully there are few that are lacking in both. Upon arrival, it is a good idea to assess the probability that your campsite will be invaded by inconsiderate or unwitting trespassers. Sometimes, I will consult a campground map before hand to get an idea of just how much privacy I can expect. There are some sites that are bound to be thoroughfares and short cuts. Short of building a fence, you just can't deter some people. I have a few horror stories I could share, but just thinking about them raises my blood pressure. Mostly I have observed other people have their personal space violated. It is astonishing to me that even when this is explained to the offender, they still can't seem to understand the concept. They never will. These are the same people you find at work and in your living room when extended family comes over. How is this a lawsuit? If it is clearly posted in the rules and I am outside with my dog on a site that I paid for and someone violates the rules and gets bitten, that is on them. Same as if they come to my house and walk into the back yard where my dogs are contained by an electric fence and get bitten.

Come on to my property (if I pay for the site, it is MY property at that time) and into my dog's space, that is YOUR liability.

If you don't like it, you can avoid walking through my site. JaxDad... that applies to you too =)

It depends on the state and what the law says. Many states are: your dog did it, you pay for it unless someone was criminally trespassing, which I honestly don't think walking through a campsite qualifies since there is no crime committed.

Rules aren't laws.

I hope you have umbrella insurance.
