I've never stayed in Wally's parking lot. We always land at campgrounds. Which is why the following tale of woe and intrigue is useful.
We were in a campground not far from the beach in North Carolina, when we were awakened in the middle of the night by noises outside the camper. We got up and made a few noises ourselves, and the din outside quieted down. In the morning, we found that someone had rifled through the pass-through that goes under our bed. Not only that, but they'd hit a dozen or so other campers, and stolen a beer cooler from one of the neighbors. Nothing of value was taken, save for that beer cooler, so we theorized it was probably teenagers looking for beer for their party. We had fun over it because the beer cooler was full of freshly caught fish. We hoped they had a good party.
But the moral of this story is that people will steal anything, and will do so no matter where you camp. Don't leave valuables where they can be gotten, and be prepared to wake up noisily. Oh, and while we don't carry firearms, I do keep the machete next to the TT door. And I keep it razor sharp.
And yes, nothing good ever comes of someone banging on your door in the wee hours.
