I don't do Wall Mart overnights. But I did have a similar experience as the OP at a gas station last summer. Trailer in tow, pulled up to the diesel pump when this raggedy looking person approaches in a frenzy explaining why they needed money.
Well, timing was not the best. I'd just come off the interstate after a couple crazy drivers got my blood rolling, and then getting into first fuel station had the diesel pump so far out of reach, and then the idiots coming and going would not give me an inch to get out (with 35 feet of trailer behind me), I was so irate by now ... you get the idea.
Finally make it to the next gas station, easy in, easy out. My blood still gyrating in a frenzy, but began pumping my fuel, brewing over why I even took this stupid exit and being thankful for THIS gas station, when IT happened.
Here it came, "sob sob sob story... can you give me some money!"
Oh boy! did I go nuts or what! I blew up. OK, one of these few times I've every lost control when camping! I broke into an absolute horrid scream, yelling to the top of my lungs (and I'm not exagerating either!) ... "Who the H*** do you think I AM... Your **** bank! I work for a **** living and I'll go to H*** before I give YOU any money! YOU WANT MONEY... GET OFF THOSE DRUGS and get a job. YOU KNOW... THAT THINK CALLED WORK! GET a J-O-B then YOU can experience some other SOB leaching off YOU!
Well, as that person was by now running as fast as possible to get away from me, and started chasing after them yelling ... GET A JOB... GET A JOB! and they ran so fast they disappeared around the building!
That's how I handled it! I then went inside and told the clerk what happened. He said they have those pan-handlers come around all the time. Not to worry about MY actions!
If you want to really get them off your back, you've got to show yourself to be just a little bit crazier than they are! Going nuts on them does work!
