May I continue a moment about "Wall Mart." We shop at our local Wall Marts quite a lot. When looking for specific items we usually go to the internet first and find out where the item is available.
Wall Mart almost always has "it", no matter what "it" is. If Wall Mart does not have that item we're looking for (it), well, (it) probably simply does not exist, they have THAT much variety in their products.
Now, there is an advertised price on the internet, but when when you go into the store one of two things happen. 1) they either do not have that specific item "in stock" as it's an internet order item only. OR 2) the "in store" price is higher than their internet price.
Why? Well ... it's the "bottom dollar". Things change! For the company, its really their advantage to do business over the internet. Why? Less overhead space to house that item on a shelf, less people to pay salaries too to stock that item on a shelf, and if it's NOT on the shelf, it's not subject to shop-lifting theft!
Wall Mart can afford to offer a lower price to ship an item to someone's house, price match, whatever, or offer in-store pick-up for items purchased over the internet, because in the long run it actually makes them more money by reducing the cost of high overhead and reduces theft also. Basically, the way they do business is changing the way people behave is changing. And Wall Mart is always going to protect their bottom dollar.
(We found out that our local Wall Mart ... Anderson, Indiana ... is the number 1 store in Indiana! Not for local sales or profits or charitable contribution to the community ... No, no no! It's #1 in shop lifting theft in Indiana).
The bottom line is (and I know I've used that phrase a lot now), is the "bottom dollar" profit-loss that drives their corporate decisions, and local profit-loss that drives what services are available to a local community by the local Wall Mart. Somehow, overnight parking in some locations has threatened their bottom dollar. It's not about customer service or customer good will... it's all about their bottom dollar.
