WARNING About RV Covers

We, at one time had a cover, it just was not for us.
Just as many, have said the corners wear and tear in the wind, (no matter how much padding and protection we used)
In our situation, the cover was some kind of signal to every wasp, hornet, mud dauber, every spider, earwig and every crawly imaginable to come live in the protection of this wonderful cover.
The truth for us was that it was way more PITA than it was worth, still got it in a box up in the shop attic.

We had very good luck with Calmark Covers. I think our cover is about 10 years old. We use to buy the ADCO covers, but didn't last too long by the beach.

In the desert SW where temps hit 110-115 regularly, an RV cover will pay for itself in reduced depreciation in less than 2 years IMO. UV damage here is very noticeable even after 12-18 months.

Prep work is key when using an RV cover.

Covering sharp corners and rain gutter spouts are a given to protect the cover from the RV. However, it's also necessary to protect the RV from the cover, too. Under windy conditions, the cover is going to move and rub against the RV hundreds of times a day. Most the weight of the cover rests on top of the a/c units and on the sides/edge of the rubber roof. We've found 3M painter's tape provides excellent protection on painted surfaces and roof areas where the cover rests (or rubs when the wind blows). For some reason, other brands of painters tape (i.e., Duck) won't stick to the rubber roof nearly as well as 3M. The big advantage of painters tape vs. other types of tape is the lack of residue when the tape is removed.

We've found walmart.com and amazon.com have some of the best prices on RV covers. Prices change (sometimes as much as 50%) every few weeks. We recently purchased a 35 ft. Classic Accessories Permapro TT cover from amazon.com for $200. Walmart wanted $290, while Campingworld wanted $570 for the same cover. Just a week prior, Amazon and walmart.com prices were exactly the same at $380. Sometimes walmart.com's prices come in lower than amazon.com---just a matter of timing. Campingworld's prices rarely change more than 10%--even when on sale. FWIW, items sold and shipped by walmart.com/amazon.com have a 90/30 day return policy, respectively.

Lastly, just wanted to mention Classic Accessories (Polypro, Polypro 3, Skyshield, Permapro, etc.) really stand behind their products. With a receipt and pics of any problem area they'll typically ship out a new replacement cover within a few days. We've done this twice with no issues.

We are in southern Arizona. We have a 37 foot 5th wheel we cover with an ADCO sunbrella cover. We have had it for 7 years with no problems. We put it on and off several times a year.

We had Adco's best one whatever the name Sunbrela or something.
We padded the corners well.
When the wind blew it billowing and stretchingthe cover and we had to retighten the straps underneath. I mean every day or twice a day.
When we removed the cover the corner padding was wet and green growth there and elsewhere.
We were sheltered from the worse of the sun.
A Neighbor down the road has his covered and the plastics sorta melted and the wall covering/paper came loose and so on from the buildup of heat.
We also had the wind billowing the cover and providing some release of heat I suppose, unintentionally.
Two winters mostly is all the sue we got from it. Repaired two corners and another tear during that time with the provided pieces of material and glue.
I don't remember is or how long a warranty was for but after the second season it was scrap.
Best idea is to store it inside somewhere until you can build your own building like my multi talented Neighbor did with a prefab metal building plus extra material to make it taller and doors on one end plus work he did to keep winds from tearing it apart. It survived with two tornadoes. We usually never have even one. By there the otherr day and still standing.He put 1 3/4 rock over soemthing liek cement powder and another layer rock packed down with a roller.for the floor. Concrete is nice but he won't have to deal with cracking.

We sell Adco covers at the store. We get 2 or 3 back every year for warranty replacement, never had any issues.

I get 5-6 years out of a cover. Never had one shred or destroy the trailer. Sounds like you didn’t cinch it down right.

We've considered getting this RV roof cover, but it would interfere with the slides. We often sit for a month at a time, but use the unit. I think it would still be of benefit when it sits all winter with no use.

Tarps are specifically NOT recommended for use on RV's. You want something that will allow moisture to escape, rather than keep it trapped on the roof.

Contact Addco; they'll replace it under warranty. ONCE. BTDT.

That's about all you can do though. The cheap ADDCO covers last about a year in the hot So Cal sun. I've owned a couple of them.
