WARNING About RV Covers

About a year ago I became worried about sun damage to my 2012 Keystone Avalanche. The graphics were becoming faded and the white layer of my EDPM roof was chalky. I decided to get an ADCO cover to protect it. After one year the cover was in tatters due the extremely cheap material and worse, wind blowing the cover has removed most of the white layer from the roof. Now I have to get the roof repaired or replaced. For those of you considering buying an RV cover, don't do it or live to regret it as I do.

  • I never had any wind damage from my cover. And, we get a lot of winter wind in our area.
It sounds like your cover had considerable movement.
If your roof isn't damaged, except for the white coating, you can recoat it. It should last several more years.
  • I used mine properly and the fabric was easily punctured by my roof drain spouts. I tried tying it down with the many supplied straps but some of them broke or the fabric started tearing when I was snugging it down. Cheap fabric for an expensive cover.
  • They specifically tell you in the instructions to tie it SNUGLY and not to let it flap in the wind for the reasons you mention. User error on this one. What you're regretting is not buying the cover, it's not using it properly.
  • ADCO makes covers from different materials for different climates. The ADCO cover I used for several winters before we went full-time was rated for cold/snow, and never caused any roof problems and held up quite well with just a couple of small easily repairable tears from falling branches. I did strap it down pretty snugly though, so there was very little movement on windy days. The last I knew, the person that bought that coach is still using the cover.
