I probably would have left, mumbling to my self what a rude dude he was. As a pet owner, I usually avoid pet type conflict. If he's training, he should do it at home. You never know how extreme people can be, What you did was fine but to many bad what if's here. Safer to just move on. Don't let someone like that ruin your day. Unfortunately times have changed.
