Remember the senior citizen in a movie theater recently who shot and killed someone over texting or cell phone calls? (Nothing against my fellow seniors.) Then there's road rage.
Such non-existent conflicts can materialize and escalate everywhere you go. Everybody loses when there are people with entitlement or anger management problems ready to blow. He was primed to take it up a notch so it's lucky your relatives appeared and caused him to back off.
Not saying I would have been able to do so, but sometimes the wise course of action is to say nothing to a ridiculous request and walk off. Then ( if he hadn't been departing) go have a chat with management the next morning. Then forget it immediately and enjoy your vacation.
