I lost my last software job at age 63-1/2. I spent the better part of a year trying to find another job, the came to the realization that no company was going to hire a 64 year old software engineer. So, I retired. I'm working at my retirement jobs, teaching people how to fly, driving for Uber and started an RV inspection company.
I'm glad I did, because I probably would have kept working until I was 70 and missed a bunch of good times while I was young enough to enjoy it.
The DW followed suit last fall and we took our retirement RV trip around the southeast last winter. Now we're working on selling the big house and finding a condo - hopefully mortgage free - to cut down on the maintenance. Already planning the next big trip.
I don't know where you got the idea that retirement is just sitting around getting bored. I have to force myself to sit around because, well, I'm an old man.
