Having read many discussions on this topic I've concluded the vast, vast majority worked because they had to, not because they wanted to. :( I'd be one of the few exceptions, having gone from university directly into the television production business where for 45 yrs I never "worked" a day in my life. Not many musicians, actors, producers, directors look forward to 65 and the day they can retire so I saw no reason I should either. However, the 2008 recession really took it's toll on the television production business and by 2011 the time had obviously come to retire. Not more than a month later though and I had secured a seasonal, part time job "working" 3 days a week ... love it and have no plans to give it up anytime soon. Luckier than most, I guess. :B
