I was an LEO for 25 years and DH was a school teacher for 33 years. I began experiencing violent vertigo (BPPV) that was recurring every few weeks. I attempted to go back to work, but no one wants a cop driving an emergency vehicle, nor carrying a firearm when they are so dizzy they can't walk any straighter than a drunk! I got my full retirement after using a few months of vacation and sick leave (I had almost 1 year of accumulated sick leave, but only had to use a few weeks of that.) I began camp hosting at a local (25 miles from home) that spring and we have been hosting during the spring/summer months since then (2009).
We still have to hang close to home since we still have middle school aged children, but as soon as school is out.....we are on the go.
During the school year, I volunteer lots of hours at our church, at our children's school, with social services agencies and our girls' swim club and DH volunteers with several church affiliated disaster agencies. WE determine our schedule, so there is no punching the clock.
I honestly don't know how I had time to work. My house looks worse now than it did when I worked, but I guess I was more organized then.
Anyway, we both thoroughly enjoy our travels, our volunteering and girls, we LOVE it.
